The French brand distinguishes itself with an original approach of fashion. In its Parisian design studio, Basus reinvents the basic items for men, by mixing materials that everything brings into conflict: the natural cotton fibers, and their famous " leather of cork " developed exclusively for the designer.
Who are you?
Florence Desmarty, co-founder and designer of the brand.
How did you start in fashion?
I started with a technical approach of fashion, by working in the production. I was always attractive to the material, the lines and the complexity of the garment.
How would you define your style?
Minimalist and clean. I revisit basic items of the male wardrobe by making them unique. I always try myself to give a keystroke of exception by mixing unexpected materials.
What inspires you?
Japanese art, design, urbanism but before any, the people who surround me. My creations have to adapt themselves to the style of each without ever disguising.
A few words about this collection...
I was inspired by the industrial design by adapting the cork to the ready-to-wear clothing. I developed a new material we called "leather of cork". This material is as soft as animal leather and goes through the machine. For this first collection, I wanted to offer few permanent basics in volontary crude style. More sophisticated pieces are to come with next collections.
Where do you manufacture your products?
All our products are made in Portugal. Cork trees come from the Mediterranean Basin (Europe), then the leather of cork fabric is made in Spain.
Where can we find your collection?
In a meticulous selection of concept-stores, and at L’Espace Basus. Our store is located down the parisian rooftop the Perchoir (14 Rue Crespin du Gast, Paris 11). The Flagship welcomes our design studio, various collaborations, and exclusive events. It was important to us to keep the festive character for what we have been know..
